Title: (Towards) Cosmology and astrophysics with the Euclid mission
Abstract: Euclid is a medium class mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) with contributions from NASA. It was launched in July 2023 and it is currently in its commissioning phase. Euclid will provide high-resolution optical imaging, as well as near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, over approximately 15 000 deg2 of extragalactic sky. The main goal of the mission is to probe the structure formation paradigm over half the age of the Universe through accurate measurements of gravitational lensing and galaxy clustering. However, its data will be an exquisite resource for a large number of science cases, ranging from the study of the Solar system to galaxy formation. In this talk I will review the status of the mission and its ongoing science activities. I will discuss in more detail a biased selection of topics related to cosmological applications of the Euclid dataset alone and in combination with upcoming Cosmic Microwave Background observations, building on examples of recent studies using current datasets.
