Gravitational Scattering in the Worldline Effective Field Theory Approach
Massimiliano Riva, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY)
Event Type: Special Seminar
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Location: 726 Broadway, 940, CCPP Seminar
Abstract: The need to improve the analytical knowledge of the gravitational waveforms emitted by binary systems has recently sparked a lively activity in the application of (classical and/or quantum) post-Minkowskian perturbation methods (expansion in G) to the two-body relativistic gravitational dynamics and radiation. In this talk, we shall review the classical Effective-Field-Theory worldline approach to gravitational scattering. Combined with with modern Quantum-Field-Theory integration techniques, we shall discuss how one can compute observables such as the scattering angle, the radiated linear momentum and angular momentum in this framework.
